Senator Miller, chairman at the senate committee on taxation and assessment declared that there doubtless were many senators who had different views aa to what the bill should eon tain, M t a condition confronted the state and the hill before tbe senate would meet the problem. Some Opposition Opposing the bill were Senators Klepper, Banks and Upton. Klep- per insisted that the remedy was to put the tax base back to three million dollars, where it was when it was cut down by Governor Pierce and then pass the Hamil ton reassessment bill. This bill would increase the assessed val ues of the state from »200,000,- 000 to »600,000,000 and would do away with the necessity of a n , Income tax. Klepper pointed out that the crisis was not so im portant that it required the Im position of a tax on the people. He warned that the bill would meet with defeat when It is voted oil.
